With: Sebastian Koch, Catherine Deneuve, John Cleese

GOD LOVES CAVIAR is the story of Ioannis Varvakis, a 19th-century Greek pirate turned businessman who made a fortune selling caviar in Russia. Varvakis strived all his life for freedom for himself and then for his country, entagled at that moment in a bloody uprising against the Ottoman rule, only to find that freedom cannot be won until it is shared. Corsairs in the Aegean Sea, political games at the Courts of Aikaterini the Great, the discovery and the exploitation of caviar, love affairs, friendships, betrayals, and family dramas compose the life of this important Greek. Events like those of Orloff, “The Society Of Friends”, and the Greek Revolution of 1821, are part of this fairy tale. Personalities like the Greek General Kolokotronis, Czarina Aiketerini the Great, Admiral Orloff and Potemkin, appear in this story, representing a period of time of which we know so little.
